We held our first club construction night on 20th November 2009 at our clubs meeting headquarters in Gayton Le Marsh.
We decided to keep the construction project as simple as possible, but also to include many of the components that one could come across when building projects, we therefore decided to build a small night rider circuit board. The circuit consisted of a 555 timer and a decade counter IC, quite a large number of signal diodes, resistors, a potentiometer, capacitors and wire links, not to mention a quantity of light emitting diodes, these were all mounted on a small piece of veroboard.
The project leader was Chris 2E0PPS, with Alan M0AQC in assistance, Chris procured all necessary parts and laid out the veroboard on paper, all club members brought their own soldering equipment and associated tools.
The evening started around 19:30 hours and finished at 22:00hrs, most people managed to complete the project, those that haven’t will be given an opportunity later to finish their board and have it tested.
The evening went extremely well, the village has good facilities to enable these projects to be handled, we have plenty of room, work desks, lighting and heating, not to mention the bar that was used for tea and coffee.
Everyone that attended had a good evening, plenty of solder fumes, banter and tea and coffee flowed from start to finish, Chris was on hand and assisted all those that had questions or problems.
We all felt that the evening went well and had learnt plenty from it, particularly where some of the guys have never built an electronic project before, we also felt that the experience gained from this event will help us with the next session in the new year where the project will be more challenging.
Our thanks to Chris 2E0PPS for his hard work with arranging the project and materials.
